Connection

We believe that meaningful therapeutic input starts with connection. In addition to focusing on building participants and clinician’s connection by building a trusting working relationship we aim to discuss connections with other people within the participants world and how these are important to them.

Advocacy

At Glow Speech Pathology and Services, we attempt to build participant’s ability to advocate for their needs, wants, feelings and choice in ways that are preferred by them. We educate communication partners about communication preferences, needs, and accommodations so that all advocacy attempts are respected. A heavy focus is placed on advocacy when working with This includes:

Information sharing, participant sharing their perspective of the ways in which they participate in their world, what brings them joy and how they experience their world, discussions about diagnosis, common traits/characteristics as well as wants and needs when communicating

Problem solving; Discussing how individuals prefer to communicate, discussion regarding communication norms for different neurotypes, double empathy problem, and problem solving

Discussing different ways of communicating, understanding the different modes of communication available and respecting and validating all forms of communication

 Educating communication partners about participant’s communication preferences and promoting that participant’s will have their own preferences for communication which should be respected

supporting participant’s advocacy within all environments in a way that is meaningful to them

Education

We are guided by the Evidence-Based Practice (E3BP) model, the three elements are equal in weight when informing our clinical decision making. We acknowledge education comes from many sources. We at Glow Speech Pathology and Services ensure that we are gaining our information from all sources and ensure that lived experience is centred, valued and understood.

We believe that knowledge is power, and this comes through education. We learn from people with lived experience and value the education given to us by participants. We commit to continuing our education in many different ways to ensure that best evidence practice is used during sessions. We will share this information with participants, their family and supports.
