No, the scope of practice in speech pathology is so vast and varied it is near impossible to know enough about everything we can provide assessment and intervention for. To provide the best outcomes for yourself and/or your loved ones we will have an initial phone conversation to discuss your needs. If this is deemed to be outside of my skill set, I will tell you and will direct you to other clinicians that are more skilled in this area.
The intake process will look a little different for each person however will follow these main points.
Initial contact, made by you through email, phone or website
We will follow up contact with you by confirming a day and time that we can have an initial phone call
At a mutually agreed upon time we will give you a free phone call between 15 and 30 minutes. During this time, we will ask each other questions and see if we would be a good fit therapeutically
We will then send out an email either providing you an offer of service, asking you if you would like to be placed on the wait list (The length and time of the wait list will change from time to time, this will be communicated with you) or will provide you information regarding other clinicians that may be more suited to your needs
You will then be invited to confirm your space when a place becomes available by signing a service agreement
Finally, services will commence
No. This is something that we are incredibly passionate about. ABA is abusive and harmful; we listen to the wider Autistic community that have told us that these practices have harmed them. At Glow Speech Pathology and Services, we use neurodiverse affirming practices, we celebrate and validate the way people experience their worlds. Compliance based therapies can increase prompt dependence and decreases internal motivation. ABA and compliance-based therapies often view neurotypical skills as “superior” and attempt to encourage neurodivergent individuals to mask their true selves which can cause prolonged harm and can negatively impacts the individual’s mental health. We at Glow Speech Pathology and Services believe in connection over compliance.
Yes, we do. We have a small clinic space where we can provide services in the Wangaratta area. We are located a suite 5 Tara Court. If you would prefer home visits, school visits and/or community visits this can be arranged however a travel charge will apply.
